How do employers show that they value their employees?

I wrote this blog after reading a BBC article…. ‘Why virtual team building exercises feel agonising’

LinkedIn news went on to share it as “Team-building exercises got you down?” - an interesting read, but I would ask.....

'How do employers show that they value their employees?'

...by rewarding them and this can be done in a number of ways, one of which is to give them a new or different experience which is classed as 'team building', taking time out of the office having some FUN with colleagues, chance to chat and engage within a relaxed and different environment, the opportunity to get to know their work colleagues, the day could be competitive - after all, who doesn't like a bit of light hearted competition. It could be creative - when did you last get out a pot of paint?

Team building doesn't have to follow the skills you use for your job role, it is about giving employees an experience and showing that they are valued.

A change of scenery from the day to day role has proven to bring new energy, enthusiasm and productivity into the workplace.
Virtual team building events and activities are a very different concept and it is very hard to replicate the face to face team building events. Back in March 2020 at the first lockdown, we at Team Activity Group initially said that virtual events would not be for us, as our expertise is providing face to face events, engaging with clients and brining energy to the room or activity location. Well 5 months on and there we were hosting virtual events, as our clients had a need to to give something to their employees and break up the day to day routine. I must add that we had great fun creating these events, and even more fun delivering them!

We were hearing from clients, friends, neighbours that the new way of working made them so much busier than before, ‘I don’t have time to take a breather between calls’ ‘there is no time to reflect on one meeting, before moving on to the next’ and many more similar comments, our clients are recognising this and see there there is a need to do something different.

Team building can be created in so many different ways

  • it can be about coming together to work out how to over come these new challenges, we know that remote working is here to stay longer than perhaps we would like, so set some ground rules

  • it can be to include social time during the working day or week, to catch up with colleagues, as you would have before, as you refresh at the water fountain, make a cup of coffee, or stretch your legs around the office.

  • it can be about introducing a healthy snack dialog between colleagues

  • It can be about sharing your exercise route/experience with colleagues.

  • it can be about setting up a competition for you and your work colleagues to virtually and collectively walk from Lands End to John O’groats

  • it can be a virtual team building event

  • it can be working towards seeing your work colleagues face to face outside in the fresh air when Covid-19 permits.

Team Building is about

  • Health

  • Wellbeing

  • Communication

  • Engagement

  • Entertainment

🪢 How do you plan to bring these aspects. into your working day?

🪢 How will you energise your employees?

🪢 How will you make your employees more productive?

Team building events can do all of these, both face to face and virtual. All our virtual events are interactive, so guests are not just sat watching a screen, you are very much part of the event.

Remember to value your employees.
